Instructions: How to time contractions

- When you begin to have the tightening in your abdomen, click the START button
- When the pain of your contraction ends, click STOP . [you may still feel tight]
- Repeat again for your next few contractions.
- When you have about five contractions recorded. [5 contractions or about 1 hour]
- Look for a pattern of Duration and Frequency in the results.
- Duration shows how long your contractions last.
- Frequency shows how far apart your contractions are.
- When your contractions are about 20 minutes apart and are staying even if you walk around or lay on your left side, you are in labor! This is the time you should contact your health care provider and/or get to the hospital.
- When you call your caregiver, tell him or her how long your contractions are lasting (Duration) and how far apart (Frequency) the contractions are. (If they are getting longer and coming closer together, be sure to let them know.)

- Are they lasting 1 minute or more, and 5 minutes apart?
- Is Duration greater than 1 minute and Frequency 5 minutes or less?
- Is Duration > 1 minute and Frequency = < 5 minutes?
